We have just returned from the most amazing week at The Malthouse, helped by the great hot weather! We fell in love with the property as soon as we arrived. The family holiday was a celebration of my 50th birthday so there was 7 adults and one dog, plenty of space for us all. We arrived to find a bottle of wine and some lovely biscuits which was a lovely gesture. The house is beautifully decorated and exceptionally clean with everything you need and more. The garden was private, a great size with parking for 2/3 cars. It’s in a lovely, quiet location but close to amenities. A short walk to Porthcothan beach which is a gorgeous dog friendly beach with shade. There is a great shop and cafe, ice creams highly recommended! Padstow is a short drive away, we also visited St Ives which was a 50 minute drive away. There are some great coastal walks from the house. We had fab commutation with Sarah before and during our visit, quick replies to any questions I had. Excellent hosts , we couldn’t have asked for more. The location is very peaceful and within walking distance of Porthcothan Beach which we walked to and enjoyed a snack on arrival at the Beach cafe there. However there are several lovely beaches within a short distance from the cottage, great for swimming or surfing, and most were dog friendly. There are also some great walks around the area as well. The Cornish Arms is only a couple of miles away, a Rick Steins restaurant, very friendly, good food and dog friendly, but advisable to book, especially in the Peak season. The Ivy House is also a lovely place to eat, a restaurant not a pub, but delicious food. However we also enjoyed several evening meals back at The Malthouse with its well equipped kitchen, anything was easy to prepare. There is also a barbecue but the evenings were chilly so we didn’t have the opportunity to use it. The garden is also a delight and the decking area catches the evening sun perfectly, a few G&Ts were enjoyed here! All in all The Malthouse is one of the nicest holiday rentals we have stayed in in the U.K. and so very spacious. The cottage is nicely appointed with everything you need (although a coffee machine would be a nice addition), nicely furnished and very comfortable. The Malthouse is in a quiet lane and a perfect position for exploring the beaches and coastal path between Newquay and Padstow; Porthcovan beach (one of the nicest) is about a mile away – too far for small children to walk to but a pleasant walk otherwise down a small lane at the start and then along a footpath (one steep bit). Just returned from a fabulous holiday at The Malthouse! The house was spotless on arrival and had everything we could wish for, for a home from home feel. The house is in a very quiet spot and very close to our favourite beach, Porthcothan. We enjoyed the spectacle of bats flying around in the evening at dusk!
